Coming Attraction: Alamo Bay Writers’ Workshop

For my fellow Texas writers who have vowed that this is the summer to finish their book, check out the Alamo Bay Writers’ Workshop outside of Austin July 19-21, 2013. This just might be the perfect follow-up to the Writers’ League of Texas Agents Conference, which just wrapped up, as well as the DFW Writers Conference and the Houston Writers Guild’s spring conference.

There’s nothing quite like immersing yourself in two and half days of writing study with award-winning instructors, including:

  • Creative nonfiction and memoir with DianeAuthor Diane Wilson Wilson (left), author of An Unreasonable Woman
  • Fiction with Larry Heinemann, National Book Award-winning author of Paco’s Story
  • Fiction with Lowell Mick White (above right), author of That Demon Life and Long Time Ago Good
  • Poetry with Lee Meitzen Grue, poet and fiction writer

Dr. Hazel Ward will serve as the workshop’s moderator.

The workshop kicks off on Friday evening, July 19, with a reception and readings by the workshop faculty. Then everyone gets down to work on Saturday and Sunday, with cross-genre workshops and question-and-answer craft discussions moderated by Dr. Hazel Ward. On Sunday, the faculty will help writers map out a strategy for getting published. Attendees can also schedule one-on-one meetings with the instructors and have the opportunity to have their work published in the ABWW Anthology after the event.

Details, Details

  • Location: Scenic Rio Far Niente just east of Austin in Del Valle, Texas.
  • Registration Fees: Register by July 9 to get the early rate of $300. The fee goes up to $350 on July 10. Register here!
  • Lodging: Attendees must book their own overnight accommodations. ABWW offers some great ideas about that here.
