Writing

Pick a Resolution!

With 2014 now officially in swingWriting Resolutions, I’ve been thinking a lot about where I’d like to go in my writing life this year. The word that comes to mind for me is “sustainability.” My biggest challenge seems to be sticking with my writing projects long enough to get something finished. Another way to look at it is to take a page from Nike: JUST DO IT! Or as my sister Cathy put it: “Do more epic shit!” Finishing a book would be epic, although let’s hope the S-word won’t apply.

Anyway, that’s where I thought I was heading this year, when I stumbled upon this uber-comprehensive post from Joe Konrath, “Konrath’s Resolutions for Writers.” Even more to think about! The highlights for me:

“I will start/finish the damn book.”
(Gulp — talk about sustainability!)

“I will create/update my website.”(Touché!)

“Life is busy. There are always things you can and should be doing, and your writing career often comes second. So make it come first. … If you can’t devote the time, energy, and money it takes to pursue this career, go do something else.”
(Exactly! Just do it — oops! There that is again!)

“I’ll get all of my real-life shit together.”
(Oh, THAT!)

So take a look at Joe’s list — I’d love to hear what YOUR writing resolutions are!
